About the instrument maker Debey (or maybe De Bey) very little is known. We do not know where he lived and worked (somewhere between Paris and Amsterdam?) nor do we know exactly when he lived (beginning of the 18th century?). Only a few instruments of his are left, one being a (very beautiful) alto recorder which is at the moment in the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.
It is an instrument with a little wider and less conical bore than the Stanesby Jr. and it therefore can be dated a little earlier in time. Due to this bore it has a somewhat fuller sound in the low register and maybe a little thinner sound in the high register, compared to the Stanesby.
